Movie Themed Bloggo Thingy

You know after working at various movie theaters for five years then graduating to the slightly less humiliating experience of video store clerking for three years, about a year and a half ago I found much better work. Thank god, health insurance never tasted so good. However, now no one asks me my opinon about movies anymore. So since I have this forum, I figured I’d start using it to blather my useless opinons about the movies I’m watching and the ones I think you should be.

In honor of October (fuck you, September we all know who rules Autumn, OCTOBER!) I wanted to give a shout out to four overlooked, underwatched and underrated Horror movies.

1) Funny Games
I have my wife Erin to thank for exposing me to this total mindfuck slice of Home Invasion themed German terror brought to you by Micheal Haneke (top ten director working right now-no b.s.). This one starts out slow and works up to some VERY uncomfortable shit. Currently being remade in English, by Haneke, so get in now so you can claim to be down from day one.
2) The Reflecting Skin
Quiet moody creepy, It tells the story of a young man walking through a nighmare of Wyeth americana. I read a review once that called this one “Faces of Death for the ArtHouse crowd”.
3) Wes Cravens New Nightmare
A completely overlooked entry into the Nightmare on Elm street series that steps out of the movie and deals with the actors (and Wes Craven) and how Freddy is fucking with their lives. This kind of postmodern horror cliche fucking got reworked to much more success with Scream a few years later.
4) Parents
Great Lynchian film (complete with Badamamenti score) about a seemingly normal 50’s family. The son of this nuclear family becomes supicious of his parents when they begin to have “leftovers” for dinner every night. The dad (Randy Quaid in his finest non Lampoon role) works in a morgue, and might be bringing his work home with him. Fuck that was corny, I’m sorry…How this one fell through the cracks I’ll never know. Its super good.

happy halloween early, you jerks.
