A documentary on the life and work of AvantGarde film maker Maya Deren whose dreamlike work in in the 1940’s permanently made her required viewing for film students and a favorite among cinema nerds.

The documentary is a great collection of interviews with her contemporaries (Jonas Mekas, Stan Brakhage, among others), clips from her films, audio from her extensive field recordings and footage she shot of voodoo practitioners in Hati.

It is a well edited and complied film, great as an introduction to the artist or to dig deeper for those that have seen her films but don’t know about her life.
